Lois K. Alexander-Lane (1916-2007), Founder & Director of the Harlem Institute of Fashion (HIF|1966), The Black Fashion Museum (BFM|1979) and author of the 1982 book, Blacks in the History of Fashion.


The BFM collection of 2,000 artifacts from 1800-2000 consist of garments, accessories and archival documentation was donated in 2006 to the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington, DC
